Case
Study #1: International Management Group (IMG)
The Scenario:
For five days over the Labor Day weekend, the
Tournament Players Club (TPC) in Norton Mass., was the site of one
of the highlights of the
PGA Tour, the Deutsche Bank Championship. The tournament attracted
the biggest names in professional golf as well as local and national
VIPs who participated in the Pro-Am Tournament.
The Challenge:
International Management Group (IMG), the event’s
organizer, was looking to partner with a printer who could manage
a series
of complicated, highly visible projects over the five-day run of
the
tournament.
IMG required a daily four-color
wrap of golfer pairings. Since each day’s pairing sheet was a valued souvenir,
it had to be a superior quality job that provided accurate information
about each golfer and
his play. At the conclusion of each day’s round, every player’s
score for the day, scores for each round played to date, tee times
for the next day, and pairings had to be updated.
After every cut,
the number of players and who they were paired with would change.
The number of pairs playing would also change
throughout
the tournament as players failed to make the cut – dropping
from 52 on Friday to 38 by Sunday.
Each piece required new design,
typesetting, proofing and proofreading. In addition, the information
– scores, pairings, and times – wasn’t
available until between 8 p.m. and midnight. IMG required that
20,000 new pieces be delivered to the golf course by 6 a.m. the
following
day.
The Pride Solution:
Armed with a fax machine and cell phones, the
Pride team worked over three shifts integrating multiple departments
to produce
and deliver
these complex pieces on time without fail. The professionals
at Pride were able to design, typeset, proof, proofread, plate,
print,
fold,
box, and deliver exactly what IMG requested at the quality level
the PGA demands. |
